Finland might not be famous for it’s food, but it doesn’t mean you’d stay hungry. You’ll find and enjoy some little treats.
If you’re after a quick snack, but not fast food on the go, Gastropub Stone’s could be something for you to try.
They have the best burgers in town if you ask me.
Whatever you’ll taste in Helsinki, I’d suggest you to avoid chain restaurants (as anywhere).
But there are some exceptions.
Nomads on a run
I lived in Helsinki for ten years, my hubs twenty, before leaving for better (…eeh, food, if you’ll ask Berlusconi) to become full-time nomads.
After leaving Helsinki we’ve visited our used-to-be-homebase running more errands than having fun. Yet trying to squeeze in couple of restaurant meals and visiting some of our fave bars and other places.
On this trip back “home” we had a quick pitstop in Helsinki on a way from Tampere to Salo to meet our pa’s.
We’d come to our so-called-home to archive some of our books, to change our summer clothing to winter gear, to apply for Russian visas, to get my camera repaired. And ofc to visit our family.
Being busy and having only few hours in Helsinki we needed to fit in some fast dining in to our schedules too.
What would be better than burgers for that?
No time for fine dining (no money either) we were looking for something fast, simple and relaxed.
We decided to grab something from one of our fave places.
So burgers it would be, but were to get the best burgers in Helsinki?
If you visit home once or twice a year you don’t wanna grab the crap.
Once again we headed to Gastropub Stone’s, just a few hundred meters from the Helsinki main railway station.
Ask locals for the best burgers in town and you’ll get various answers.
If you ask me you get this simple reply, go to Stone’s (no need to get stoned despite the name).
Homemade Gourmet Burgers in Helsinki for Travelers (and for those who’ll stay)
We didn’t literally grab the burgers as to take away on a run, but ate at Gastropub Stone’s.
As well as took care of some of our business meanwhile waiting for our food, – they do have a free wifi.
I actually do dislike taking out any device in a restaurant, but we were so much on a run.
Both an insurance company and a Russian visa office were closing in a half an hour, that was a have-to-do situation.
Working in a nomad cafe is a different story. This is the place to relax, enjoy your meal and have a chat with your friends. That was the case when we still lived in Helsinki.
Stone’s is actually part of the big S chain, but don’t let that fear you. They have the best burgers in Helsinki if you ask my opinion.
Also their waiters/waitresses are super friendly!
And their prices are reasonable.
– Burgers cost around 16€ which is not bad for a gourmet burger this being in Finland anyway.
If you don’t feel sleepy after finishing your burger, pay a visit to Apéro, which was our corner bar in Helsinki.
This place is mostly inhabited by people living in neighbourhoods, often having their dogs with them.
